Change to how siegebases work due to new anti proxy mayor change Back

I saw a screenshot in the questions channel from Mangoishere that non active residents can't be set as town mayors anymore.
This change literally only hurts the server with how sieges currently work. To have a good and defendable fort, you need to ideally have 2 defence claims on opposite sides of the fort. The enemies need to have a claim for a siegebase to siege it. This is ideally 3, but for easier sake lets say 2 towns per fort.
Pretty much any player that cares about not living underground does NOT want to be the mayor of a siegebase or defence town.
If you want to get rid of proxy mayors, I have a suggestion on how you do so:

The reason players have proxy mayors is that no one wants to live inside siegebases or defence towns as you cant build anything above ground unless you want to sacrifice space to park movecraft. The by far easiest solution to getting rid of proxy mayors is adding a new type of town that is held BY THE NATION it is in. This would mean that a siegebase does not need to be held by an actual player, but rather by the server. This would get rid of about 90% of proxy mayors and would be a nice quality of life change for those people that don't have a lot of friends with a minecraft account. You could do it that a nation can buy an amount of towns that it can hold as a nation or that the upkeep is higher than if it was a normal mayor, so there is still a downside of not having some actual player live in the town.

If you have a bridge that's got a weak column, you dont simply remove the column, that would break the entire bridge.
You replace the column beforehand.

Figure out why people need proxxy mayors, figure out what mechanics might make them redundent and go from there.

Very good suggestion, but it would be a bit hard managing perms for the fort if there is no mayor to give out perms/trust.

Maybe add a nation rank of Fort leader? So they are the defacto mayor of all forts

or make it so where owners of forts can have the ability to make separate towns/outposts, but amazing suggestion

I think the idea that active mayors only holding normal peaceful towns is ok, I can deal with that, but now that I am going to create a new fort soon, I actively have to find 2 people willing to live in a movecraft bases. Nobody wants to do that and I have 0 trust for someone to live in a town that contains all my grinded out resources and movecraft. My only option is to pester my friends who dont play the server to come online and reach some sort of mystery requirements until they are considered active to hold my military towns.

Gucci suggestion, unless somehow the way forts + bases work is drastically changed so bases dont have to exist, I don't know in which way it is avoidable to have them as towns surrounding the fort with necessarily a proxy mayor "holding" them. And ye, nobody really wants to live in a base because it doesn't work as an actual town in the sense that you can't really give out plots, or have space to build something else that isn't siege oriented. The only hard part here is how nations would be able to make the bases (in the end if they keep working as towns) and how to manage claims, perms, etc like potato said, once you have the mayor be an NPC (for example).

I don't think this'll work due to towny restrictions. Unless the Towny devs add a way to manage towns that you aren't a resident in, this won't really be possible. As far as I know, CCNet devs don't really like adding onto the towny plugin due to it's code being extremely messy and difficult to work with - this is why suggestions for towny are never implemented.

Npc mayors are already a thing. You could probly set up something to allow commands be run as if by the npc mayor. If not you could set them up as default all nation and ally perms on and figure out how to deal with it.

There are also town outposts which could be repurposed for this.
