I dunno that this would be a good idea. This is like the one thing subs are good at. If you nerf there speed to much they can't catch anything. And if they can't outrun a destroyer there kinda doomed.

There is no dodging for depth charges only staying out of range. If you can't stay out of range a couple hits will sink you. I just ran some tests they cause 100 block holes from about 70 blocks away. If its a min or close to min sized sub (which is useally a have to because of how shallow alot of places are) 2 hits is enough. You get within 50 blocks and hit the button and the sub dies. 2 depth charges on a corv would be enough to sink any small sub and you would have no chance of outrunning it. More depth charge range makes this even worse you would have a 200 block wide circle of push button and die.

The problem is the sub cannot dodge a depth charge if its in range it just hits. While for any other weapon you can try and rotate out of the way theres something you can do.

What would probly make this better is if we had 2 anti sub weapons.

The hedge hog anti-sub mortar. Basically a depth charge but it fires up in and high arc and can be aimed. But its got a much smaller effect radius like 20 blocks.

And the same depth charge but smaller range. (You gotta have this so the sub doesn't just sit under you)

The way depth charges blow holes in random places is also a problem cause it kills ammo chests alot and you can't really shield anything

It doesnt matter what plantt said, if a ship can possible outrun and easily stay of range of the DD (which it can). Then unless the submarine pilot is restricted in intellgence, they should be able to just rotate spam to abuse the fact destroyers have accel.

The problem ends up being if the sub can't outrun the DD then theres nothing it can do. Depth charges being undodgable means if the DD catchs up you get hit.

I dont really see this as an issue, the sub should be playing at a distance enough to dissapear. IF the Submarine its spotted, it should be able to run but shouldnt be able to dissapear as it does now. Depth charges are by no means undodgable and sometimes do 0 damage.

I would argue that given how powerful submarines are, being able to sink a surface ship with one engagement, they should equally be rather fragile. And this fragility can only be exploited if destroyers would be able to catch them.

Thats not to say they should be faster (even tho i believe this is still fair), but rather forces the submarine to take more risks in approaching ships by allowing it to be sunk whereas know it can practically dissapear. IT forces sub pilots to play at longer distances if they want to be safe.

To address you plant, 15.5 m/s is more than fast enough to torpedo a ship from a respectable range and then run away while all the destroyers are scrambling to find out where the torpedoes came from. 15.5 m/s is more than fast enough to catch every single craft other than a destroyer or corvette, and it's still fast enough that it isn't grossly outrun by a destroyer.

This isn't something that movecrafters are unaware of. Everyone knows a submarine can just rotate spam a destroyer to get away from it very easily and very quickly. Again I'm fine with submarines doing so much damage, but not when the only time you can realistically sink one is if the submarine itself moves under an idle destroyer and gets depth charged.

People downvoting this just want to continue cheesing movecraft to use a very powerful weapon with little-no consequence, because outside of naval regions, you just straight up are NOT catching a submarine, even in a destroyer.
