If there was to for example be a 3rd side at Scandinavia it would first promote people not to just be alliance or coa which would be healthy for the server but it was also increase the tactics needed since you would have to be fighting at 2 fronts so you would really have to think about were your sending your soldiers and stuff. I think it would also work in naval quite well since you could just have a big line facing the opps and you would have to manage your ships better same with tanks and stuff

The issue with this is

1. A strong and actual third side has never really existed imo, maybe for like a month but the third side usually swings in to one side to double team a common enemy (Ex. Federation and Legion)

2. This would be exploitative towards nations with dp issues, if my nation couldnt ally the attacking nation because of dp i could just join as a third side

The idea is nice if it would work, but this server hasn't had and never will have a true and strong third side to boost this idea.
