I know that staff intervention in player-built areas is generally avoided and it would require alot of work from the team, and I completely understand the reasons for that. However, I wanted to suggest considering a limited, selective reset of certain heavily overbuilt and long-abandoned zones that have become largely ruined or unused.
The map has been around for quite some time, and some areas are now extremely overcrowded with old builds, unfinished projects, and decayed structures. While preserving player history is important, these regions no longer contribute much to active gameplay and can make exploration feel cluttered and repetitive.
A careful reset of a few of these abandoned zones could have several positive effects:
Free up space for new players and new projects.
Improve the overall appearance and exploration experience of the map.
Reduce the feeling of the world being "used up" in certain regions.
Encourage renewed activity and settlement in refreshed areas.
This wouldn't need to be a widespread cleanup, just a targeted review of areas that are clearly abandoned, heavily degraded, and no longer serving an active purpose. I think it could strike a good balance between preserving history and keeping the world healthy somewhat.
