As it is currently, Ice can form at any distance around any piloted or unpiloted Movecraft ship (Except icebreakers) and essentially trap the ship in place until all the ice in the way has been removed.
However, this would not be an issue if the ice did not form faster than what players can break it at. With every block of ice broken, about 4-6 more form around the ship making it basically impossible for 1 or even 3 players with explosion picks from clearing the ice around one of the larger ship classes. (Not an exaggeration, this actually happened with a dreadnought)
Now I know that this is what Icebreakers were created to do but even with an icebreaker, the ice still forms way too fast making it basically impossible to even clear a couple block gap in the ice so a small ship can get through. Since the Ice can forms off the blocks of the icebreaker Piloted or not, the ice can form even after the icebreaker has gone through the ice that was already there creating a headache inducing job just to get a single ship through a small patch of ice.
I do not remember this being a major issue before the server went down so I'm not sure if its a bug or not but either way, a nice permanent fix would be to create an radius of X blocks (Depending on the ship class to keep it balanced) around a Movecraft ship when piloted where Ice cannot form. (Snow layers also have the same issue but its easily manageable with a semi decent diamond shovel since they form less frequently).
This is not an issue for anyone that isn't in the Antarctic, but fixing small issues like this would make it easier for players new or old to make port towns in Antarctica where they are free to expand or make new nations, populating what is a very desolate area of the map.
