the main inspiration of this idea was asking the question, how did they do it irl? irl there was no siege bases but there was supply lines, siege bases existence eliminated that concept entirely, so what did they do in irl sieges? they created temporary camps near the forts they wanted to siege, and that is what I call.. siege camps!! (I know I know ccnet isnt real life but that doesnt mean that the moment the world "irl" is mentioned we say no this is bad, if it will make the geoPOLITICAL server have actual politics rather than a war server then maybe it should be considered)
here is how the new siege system will work:
1. you can place a banner on the fort like normal and start a siege(revolt, liberation, navalforts conquests)
2. you create a siege camp, which is a temporary town created near a non peaceful town, once you place a camp(in thursday or wednesday) you will start a "preparation phase" in this phase you can expand your camp up to 100 chunks, then you will need to prepare that camp in 1-2 days, you are also allowed to cancel the siege during this phase by deleting the camp(this is very similar to ultimatums from CW so diplomacy can happen), then after the preparation period ends, you start the siege period which is just a normal siege until it ends, after the siege ends, the fate of the camp is decided by the results, if the attackers lost, then the defenders have driven them off successfully and are able to plunder their camp! and the camp town will be deleted (makes sense, u can also empty it if you think you will lose), if the attackers are victorious the fort will be occupied/plundered and the camp will be kept until the fort wins a liberation or a revolt siege
> problems?
I cant prepare fast enough > you just need to print movecrafts and bring consumables, all of which can be brought in a single zeppelin to your camp, you dont need to print a massive structure every time u want to siege! it is called a camp for a reason! it is meant to be temporary and replaceable and printing a massive siege base every time isnt a requirement
I wont have enough movecrafts in time > we all know you can print like 25 heavy tanks with a single shipyard, now do 4 of those and u have 100 heavy tanks to fight with, the meta will take a few sieges to adapt to that
I dont want to print a whole new siege base everytime... > it is a temporary camp, dont print any big 70 thousand blocks siege bases everytime, just make a small one that does your needs
sieges will become more and more exhausting> they are already extremely exhausting for defenders since they are the only people with something on the line, maybe you shouldnt attack a nation every 2 weekends until you make them burn out and hate the game and server becomes a sunk cost fallecy? (that is an actual thing players complain about and I am not exaggerating)
> goods:
attacking requires actual planning not just placing banner and swinging swords, currently the attacker has everything the defender has except turrets on the fort and those are easily disabled anyways, and you could actually argue that defenders are at a disadvantage in most sieges since they face drilling while attackers dont
solves the problem of 2 siege bases surrounding your town for eternity
an actual risk to offensives now FINALLY THE FIVE YEARS OF WAR MIGHT END, what kept it fueling all this time is that offensives are equally(if not less costly) than defensives, despite preparing for a defensive taking significantly more time, now losing will cost you your stockpiles and you would need to prepare a new camp again so you would actually need to thoroughly consider every offensive siege you do
